Loyal sponsors step in again

PARTICIPANTS at this year’s PJ Half Marathon are in for a treat as sponsors have come out in full force to support the event to be held at the Petaling Jaya Stadium in Kelana Jaya on Aug 12,

Loyal sponsors Milo, Sports Toto, Reebok, 100 Plus and California Fitness are committed towards making the event, held in conjunction with Merdeka celebrations, a memorable one. There will be a lot of goodies for the participants.

Nestle Products communication channels and events department sampling manager Peggy Leong said they were contributing in cash as well as kind to the PJ Half Marathon, considered as the oldest road race in the country.

“We have seen the event grow into a major event in the country that attracts participants from all walks of life,” said Leong.

100 Plus has also been part of the PJ Half Marathon for almost a decade and they don’t have any qualms in supporting event this year.

F&N Coca-Cola regional special event and sponsorship manager Muhammad Fauzi Ahmad said residents in the Klang Valley look forward to the event.

RSH Malaysia, the distributors of the Reebok brand in Malaysia, have lined up a fashion show to entertain participants.

RSH Malaysia advertising and promotions manager Jay Mee Chuah said they were contributing cash, shoes and apparel as prizes.

“The fitness training team will also lead the warm up and warm down sessions,” said Chuah.

Sports Toto have been loyal supporters of the PJ Half Marathon and will contribute prizes for the lucky draw.

Sports Toto public affairs manager Emily Tan said the PJ Half Marathon was a healthy activity participated by people from all walks of life.

California Fitness is supporting the event for the second consecutive year.

Marketing manager Alicia Kok said they had received encouraging feedback from participants.

”Our participation as a sponsor was also to create awareness of a healthy lifestyle,” said Kok.

Malta has also come on board as a main sponsor for the 23rd edition of the PJ Half Marathon.

Guinness Anchor senior brand manager Lim Ju Lee said Malta was a brand promoting active lifestyles.

“It is only natural to be part of an event like this,” said Lim.

The PJ Half Marathon is organised by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), the Selangor Amateur Athletic Association and The Star.

The PJ Half Marathon’s 21km run has three categories – men’s open (18 years and open), men’s veteran (40 years and above) and women’s (18 years and above).

The 10km run has five categories – men’s (18 years and above), men’s veteran (40 years and above), boys (13 to below 18 years), girls (13 to below 18 years) and women’s (18 years and above).

The five categories for the 5km run are the men’s veteran (40 to below 50 years), men’s senior veteran (50 years and above), women’s veteran (35 years and above), men’s special (wheelchair participants) and women’s special (wheelchair participants).

There is also a 5km team event with each team consisting of three participants, and a 3km fun run for families.

Besides the main sponsors, the organising committee, headed by Datuk Wong Sai Hou, has also convinced other sponsors to contribute in kind to make the PJ Half Marathon a bigger event.

The sponsors include Rohto-Mentholatum, KFC Holdings, BioCare Solutions, Nestle Breakfast Cereals, Sangla Foods, Peakvision, Nikko Hotel, Berjaya Starbucks, Frontier Food marketing; GBA Corporation, Gardenia Bakeries, Star Cruises and Southern Lion.
