Beeline for entry forms

SMJK Sam Tet, a big fan of the Ipoh Starwalk, is again the first school to pick up entry forms for the annual event.
Principal Phang Yoon Ming and senior assistant Hee Park Chee handed out the forms to the students on Monday when entries for the June 21 walk opened.
Phang hoped to get at least 2,000 students to sign up compared to the 1,500 who took part in l"The school term for Lower Six students starts next month. We'll be getting them to join the walk as well," he said.
The school, Phang noted, strongly encouraged its students to participate in the event as they would be awarded merit points for participating in co-curricular activities.
The school, which has a current enrolment of about 2,600, has been faithfully participating in the Ipoh Starwalk since it was introduced in 2004.
Following in SMJK Sam Tet's footsteps were SMJK Ave Maria Convent and SMK Perempuan Methodist Ipoh which handed out the entry forms to their students yesterday.

"We will encourage all our teachers to participate as well," said Chen after receiving the entry forms from The Star's V. Sreedaran Nair at the school yesterday.
She said a record 1,500 students from the school took part in the walk last year.
SMK Perempuan Methodist Ipoh principal Soot Mooy Ching said 1,200-odd students took part in last year's walk and they would try to match or increase the number this year.
"The response from the students has always been overwhelming," Soot said.
One of Perak's most exciting sporting events, Ipoh Starwalk 2009 will be flagged off from Stadium Indera Mulia at 7am on June 21.
It is jointly organised by Star Publications (M) Bhd and the Ipoh City Council with the co-operation of the Perak Government, Perak Amateur Athletics Association and Perak Education Department in conjunction with Ipoh city's 21st anniversary.
There will be two categories ? non-competition and competition. The distance for both categories is 10km.
Entry fee for non-competition walkers is RM8 per person while competition walkers will be charged RM12 each.
The public can register at The Star's office at No 39, Jalan Hussein, Ipoh, from 9am to 5pm on weekdays, except public holidays.
