2,000 target for Malakoff run

ABOUT 2,000 people are expected to take part in the second ‘Malakoff 26km, Penang 2009’ run in June.
Its corporate affairs and communications head Yusop Rashid said about 1,000 participants including elite runners were expected to take part in the 26km run with another 1,000 amateurs expected for the shorter 6km run.
The event will be held on June 7 and there are six categories for the 26km run, and four categories for the 6km run. Both the events will be flagged off at the Penang Municipal Park.
He said this at a press conference at Komtar in George Town recently. Also present was State Youth, Sports, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi.
The organiser of the event Pacesetters Athletic Club Malaysia (PACM) president Rustam Affandi Zaihan said everyone would receive a medal upon crossing the finishing line.
He said the first run will start at 5.30am while the 6km run will be flagged off at 6.30am.
Rustam said prizes totalling RM19,400 for both the runs in the form of vouchers were up for grabs.
For the 26km run, participants will run along Jalan Gottlieb, Jalan Mount Erskine Road, Jalan Fettes, Jalan Tanjung Bungah, Jalan Tanjung Tokong, Gurney Drive, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Lebuh Light, Jalan Burma, Jalan Perak, Jalan Macalister, Jalan Sepoy Lines, Jalan Utama and back to the park.
A fee of RM40 will be charged on non-PACM members, while members pay RM30 for the 26km run.
As for the 6km run, those joining the men and women categories will need to pay RM15 and those participating in the junior category only need to pay RM10.
