Muniandy to lead the charge

LOCAL road runner R. Muniandy will be leading Team New Balance’s challenge at the New Balance Pacesetters 30km Run scheduled at Padang Merbok on Jan 17.
Muniandy settled for the second spot in the men’s category at the Singapore Marathon this month.
Stream Enterprise marketing manager Wei Chong Hwa confirmed that their sponsored athlete would be featuring for the team at the upcoming event.
Besides staying as a staunch backer of the club’s 15km event over the years, the running brand is now the title sponsor for the fifth edition of the 30km run.
Wei said they were expecting an exciting year ahead with the brand launching a strong global campaign in long distance running.
“Our aim is to continue a long-term partnership with the club to encourage the running community to come together for social gatherings,” he added.
Recently, Pacesetters Athletic Club Malaysia (PACM) president Rustam Affandi Zaihan also received the contributions from other partners for the club’s opening event in the new season.
Among other sponsors are Milo, Power Bar, Nivea, Perkinsdol and Nestle Fitnesse.
And the seasoned campaigners will be tackling a familiar terrain around the Lake Gardens, Bukit Tunku and Sri Hartamas to get to the finishing line.
“The event has been designed to prepare the runners for the 42km distance. The participants have been receptive to the 30km run because it provides them with the opportunity to gauge their endurance before taking up the challenge.
Even the foreigners, especially our northern and southern neighbours, have also been turning up to join the occasion,” Rustam said.
The organisers are expecting 3,000 participants in the 10 categories for the event offering a total of RM23,000 in product vouchers to the winners.
The six categories for the 30km are women’s open (16 years and above), women’s junior open (30 to 34 years), women’s senior veteran (46 years and above), men’s open (16 years and above), men’s junior veteran (40 to 50 years) and men’s senior veteran (51 years and above).
In addition, they have also included the 10km and 20km routes catering to competitors seeking to complete a shorter course.
