Duathlon: World No.1 Csomor back to defend women’s crown
PETALING JAYA: World number one Erika Csomor of Hungary will be back to defend her title in the women's elite category in the Malakoff Powerman Malaysia 2007 Duathlon championships in Lumut on Nov 11.
Csomor clocked 3'06:13 to clinch the crown in Lumut last year. Michelle Parsons of England finished second on 3’07:59 while Reka Brassay of Hungary was third after clocking 3’14:03.
Belgium's world number one Benny Vansteelant won the men's crown last year. He passed away in September following a road accident.
This time, Joerie Vansteelant is the favourite for the men's title. He is the current world number one.
More than 560 participants, including Malaysians, will be vying for honours. A total of RM132,000 in prize money is up for grabs in the various categories.
Shahrom Abdullah and Heidlee Mohamed will be leading Malaysia's challenge in the men's category. Mariana Mohamed, who finished a creditable fifth last year, and Stephanie Chok Kui Eng will be Malaysia's strong challengers in the women's category. All four are preparing for the Korat SEA Games in December.
Shahrom said the race would be an ideal warm-up before the Games.
“There is a lack of competition in the country and the Malakoff Powerman gives me the opportunity to race against the best athletes,” said Shahrom at the launch of the event yesterday.
The duathlon involves an 11km run, a 64km bike race and then another 10km race. There will be three categories contested - individual (11km run-64km bike-10km run), Malakoff Power Relay (11km run-64km bike-10km run) and Malakoff Sprint Duathlon (5.5km run-32km bike-5km run).

Runners eye top spot
SEVERAL regular road runners will spearhead Panasonic’s challenge at the Malaysia EKIDEN Road Relay at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya tomorrow.
Team manager T. Kanniappan, who is also the Panasonic Sports Complex manager, said they had picked 15 employees and formed three teams to take part in the relay.
“The relay is a historic event as it is held in conjunction with Malaysia’s 25th anniversary of the Look East Policy. We were invited by the Japanese Embassy in Malaysia and the Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur to participate in the Relay. Our counterparts from Japan had also encouraged us to be part of the event.
“We managed to gather our employees and we will be out to do well in the Relay. Since most the representatives are seasoned runners, we are confident of a good outing,” Kanniappan said after a training session at the Panasonic Sports Complex in Shah Alam recently.
The seasoned runners in Panasonic team are B. Moorthy, Takatoshi Iwata, Saharudin Mohamed, Mat Nor Din, Afni Abdul Razak, Eric Low Siong San and Zolhisham Yahya.
The relay, organised by the International Youth Centre Foundation, Honorary Consulate General of Malaysia in Fukuoka, Japan, and the Alumni of Look East Policy Society, is also to establish better diplomatic relations between Japan and Malaysia.
The relay has five categories – mixed team (18 years and above); men Open (18 years and above); women Open (18 years and above); men junior (13-17 years) and women junior (13-17 years).
Each team will comprise five runners. Each runner has to complete 3km, with the total distance being 15km. Prizes will be offered to the top five teams in each category.
The relay was last held in Kuala Lumpur in 1994. Then Panasonic had fielded three teams and they finished 4th, 10th and 12th respectively.
Kanniappan said Takatoshi had taken part in the relay in 1994.
“He is the most experienced runner in our team. He has been training with the other runners for the past two weeks.
“We are expecting one of the three teams to finish among the top five in the men’s Open category,” added Kanniappan

Terry Fox
I don’t feel that this is unfair.
That’s the thing about cancer.
I’m not the only one, it happens all the time to people.
I’m not special.
This just intensifies what I did.
It gives it more meaning.
It’ll inspire more people.
I just wish people would realise that anything’s possible if you try; dreams are made possible if you try.”

Kuantan TC Run
Saturday 20/10/2007
Quite sometimes already, I did not participate the race with my gang, almost a month after PAR3. Furthermore, this time we are heading to Kuantan, Teluk Chempedak.
Raymond, due to some personal reason has to withdraw from this event, a day before the departure, SC injured his toe nail…*sigh* what a bad luck? But for the sake of support to the gang, he decides to join us to Kuantan. Of course, not to forget our VVIP who joining us for this journey,Saiful…who really make our trip very interesting and funny.
We meet up at KL Sentra, have a quick lunch at Mcdonalds, then quickly start our journey, heavy rain along the ways. We only reach Vistana Hotel at 6.30pm.. Meet few PM’s there …collecting our bib no, vest then proceed to my brother’s house. After dinner at Sri Mahkota, the food quite delicious, and then we go to Teluk Chempedak, We have a rough measurement of the route as according to the route map, which appear quite close to 10km.
Sunday 21/10/2007
We reach Teluk Chempedak at 6:40am, meet Jamie there… after reporting, we start our warm up session. SC will take care of our belongings. The race start on time at 7.15am.i am quite worry with my sore throat and cough, hence I only set my target at about 49mins.
Haha at first thought of pace with CM, but after find that my legs is in quite good condition and TH and Saiful are really far away in front, I push myself to increase my speed.. The first 6km, I practice at constant 4:40-4:50 pace, pacing with the runners who have almost the same speed like me. When come to the 6Km distance, I know here with b some descending slopes, I push myself further to close the gaps from the runners in front and can see TH about 200meter in front when reaching 9km. But with only 1km left and based on his performance right now, It is very difficult for me to keep close to him. I finished at the position of 21th with timing of 44.38, TH at position of 19th with timing of 44:20 while VVIP Saiful 16th with timing of 42:59. Personally, I am very satisfy with my result.

Do You Know Where You're Going To
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know?
Do you get
What you're hoping for?
When you look behind you there's no open door
What are you hoping for?
Once we were standing still in time
Chasing the fantasies
That filled our minds
You knew how I loved you
But my spirit was free
Laughing' at the questions
That you once asked of me
Now looking back at all we've planned
We let so many dreamsJust slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long
Before we'll see
How sad the answers
To those questions can be
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Do you know
where you´re going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to?
Do you know...?
Do you get What you´re hoping for
When you look behind you
There´s no open door What are you hoping for?
Do you know...?
