Terry Fox

I don’t feel that this is unfair.
That’s the thing about cancer.
I’m not the only one, it happens all the time to people.
I’m not special.
This just intensifies what I did.
It gives it more meaning.
It’ll inspire more people.
I just wish people would realise that anything’s possible if you try; dreams are made possible if you try.”

– Terry Fox (1958-1981)

Terry Fox Run 2007

The run was initiated by Terry Fox, who was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 18. The Canadian had his right leg amputated and was moved by the suffering of cancer patients he saw while he was in the hospital and decided to embarked on a journey he called the Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research.

Terry ran a marathon (42km) a day for 143 consecutive days before he was forced to abandon it when the cancer spread to his lungs. He passed away at the age of 21.
