Relay For Life KL 2008

Relay For Life KL 2008 will be held on 31st May-1st June, the weekend of World No Tobacco Day and International Cancer Survivor's Day, at the MSN Training Stadium, Bukit Jalil. We celebrate the advances in cancer, knowing that more cancers are being prevented and for those with cancer, more lives are being saved. We remember the loved ones lost and vow to fight back to make a difference in the lives of the future generation.

Today, 1 in 4 Malaysians have a lifetime risk of developing cancer. By the year 2020 it will be 1 in 3 if no action is taken. This means every family will have at least one member suffering from cancer - be it your parent, spouse, sibling or child.

Each year the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) continues to advance the cause of cancer. NCSM offers the most comprehensive cancer services in Malaysia at no cost or subsidised rates. Over 10 000 Malaysians utilise our services annually. We provide programmes to reduce cancer risk, detect cancer early, ensure proper treatment and empower people facing cancer to maintain the highest quality of life. We also facilitate post cancer treatment and support mechanisms. Through our services and campaigns such as Relay for Life, The Free Women's Cancer Screening Programme for the Underprivileged and Children's Cancer Programme we have seen many lives changed for the better.

The National Cancer Society of Malaysia would like to invite YOU to join the fight against cancer through Relay for Life KL 2008.

Relay for Life, an international event staged in over 22 countries in 4800 communities worldwide with over 3.5 million participants, is an overnight community based cancer awareness and fundraising event which unites cancer survivors, care givers and caring individuals.

In 2007, the inaugural Relay for Life KL attracted over 3000 participants from across Malaysia of all ages from all walks of life. The surrounding publicity touched even more lives, creating a heighten awareness of cancer issues. This year we aim for participation of at least 6000 people.

NCSM continues to work to help make a difference in the lives of people. Each and every person affected by cancer has reason to hope because great advances are being made in prevention and treatment. However, continued outreach and work is essential to decrease the number of people developing cancer and help the over 40 000 Malaysians who are affected by cancer each year.

Our aim is to raise RM 1 000 000 to advance cancer screening and treatment services.

The world is like a mirror

One day all the employees reached the office and they saw a big advice on the door on which it was written:
'Yesterday the person who has been hindering your growth in this company passed away.
We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym'.
In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who was that man who hindered the growth of his colleagues and the company itself.
The excitement in the gym was such that security agents were ordered to control the crowd within the room.
The more people reached the coffin, the more the excitement heated up.
Everyone thought: 'Who is this guy who was hindering my progress?
Well, at least he died!'.
One by one the thrilled employees got closer to the coffin, and when they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood nearby the coffin, shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest partof their soul.
There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it could see himself.
There was also a sign next to the mirror that said:
'There is only one person who is capable to set limits to your growth: it is YOU.
You are the only person who can revolutionize your life. You are the only person who can influence your happiness, your realization and your success.

You are the only person who can help yourself.
Your life does not change when your boss changes, when your friends change, when your parents change, when your partner changes, when your company changes. Your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond your limiting beliefs, when you realise that you are the only one responsible for your life.
'The most important relationship you can have, is the one you have with yourself'
Examine yourself, watch yourself. Don't be afraid of difficulties, impossibilities and losses: be a winner, build yourself and your reality.
The world is like a mirror: it gives back to anyone the reflection of the thoughts in which one has strongly believed. The world and your reality are like mirrors laying in a coffin, which show to any individual the death of his divine capability to imagine and create his happiness and his success.
It's the way YOU face Life that makes the difference.

Strong field for KL marathon

NATIONAL marathon runners Shaharudin Hashim and Yuan Yufang will spearhead Malaysia's challenge in the AmBank-Kuala Lumpur International Marathon (KLIM) at the Dataran Merdeka tomorrow.

They will be up against a strong foreign cast comprising runners from top marathon countries such as Kenya, Japan, New Zealand and Canada.

Last year’s champion, Kenya's Cyprian Kiogara is back to defend his title. Kiogara is a member of the 37-strong Kenyan contingent boasting runners capable of clocking below two hours 30 minutes.

About 8,000 participants have signed up for the KLIM which is organised by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Federal Territory Amateur Athletics Association (FTAAA). The marathon offers a total cash prize of RM300,000.

The sponsors are AmBank Group, Milo, Resort World, F&N Coca-Cola and Adidas.

AmBank Group chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim said they were happy with the response for the KLIM.

“The number of entries we have received is more than last year. We would like to encourage all serious and social runners to join in the AmBank KLIM.

“With the new 3km Fun Run category introduced this year, we would also like to invite more families to join in,” said Azman.

National coach P. Sidamparam is expecting the national runners to clock their personal best in the KLIM.

“It will be a difficult challenge for our runners as they will be up against runners from countries such as Kenya.

“However, our main target for the runners is to better their personal best.”

“The AmBank KLIM is used as a platform to select national runners for overseas competition as they usually receive numerous invites from countries such as China, Korea and even France to compete.

“The selection of the national runners to compete in these meets is based on their timings,'' said Sidam-param.

Power Run

THE NINTH edition of the 10km Power Run will be held on April 27 at Datar an Merdeka and will feature two new categories, the primary school boys and girls sections.

The run, which is sponsored by Bata Malaysia, was launched by Olympic Council Malaysia President, Tunku Tan Sri Imran, at OCM’s Hall of Fame yesterday.

The Power Run attracts around 4,000 participants annually, with half the number being school children.

The Power Run 2008 was postponed by a week so that it will not clash with the 2008 Olympic Torch Relay.

“This is the ninth edition of the Power Run and the FTAAA has targeted 4,000 runners to participate with a good per centage of them schoolchildren.

“This is a healthy development and bodes well for the promotion and de velopment of distance running,” said marketing manager of Bata Malaysia Dato James Selvaraj.

“We have added two new categories in the run, the primary school boys and girls sections, which will enable them to show some interest in long distance run.”

“We will also have some top runners participating, which will make the public eager to participate.”

“The Power Run to us is yet another corporate contribution to society and also our humble way of saying thank you to Malaysians for their tremendous sup port for Bata and Power all these years.”

“There will be winners or losers in the Power Run but all are winners in cel ebrating the spirit of sports and com pleting the run within the alloted time.”

The Power Run 2008 is open to cit izens of Malaysia and the closing date for registration is April 19.

Thank You

My Friend:
You're... My friend, My companion,

Through good times and bad,
My friend, My buddy,
Through happy and sad,
Beside me you stand, Beside me you walk,
You're there to listen, You're there to talk,
With happiness, With smiles, With pain and tears,
I know you'll be there, throughout the years!
You are all good friends to me and I am grateful to you.

Many people will walk in and out of your life,
but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.

"The glory of friendship is not in the outstretched hand,
nor the kindly smile,
nor the joy of companionship;
it is in the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discoversthat someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him."

"A friend is one who knows what you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still..."

My Friend...
You have given me courage, That was not there...
You have given laughter, That I can share...
You have given me feelings, That are deep and true...
For that my friend I will always love you...

A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.

I can see that you are troubled--
a friend can always tell
--and thinking of you hurting makes me hurt as well.
I'm sure I'll never understand exactly how you feel,
I only hope you know that my concern for you is real.
I wish that there was something helpful I could do to take away the burden that is weighing down on you.
Although I cannot fix things,
this I can extend
--my loving thoughts, my heartfelt prayers for you,

"When good friends get together, right from the start,
Each day is like a holiday that's treasured from the heart!"

Friendship doubles your joys, and divides your sorrows.

A friend loves at all times...
