More on Offer at Power Run

MEDALS and trophies are not the only things runners should take aim at in Sunday's Power Run at Dataran Merdeka as the organisers will also have a series of lucky draws for the expected 4,000 participants.

Federal Territory Amateur Athletic Association secretary S. Vegiyathuman said sponsors Bata, Milo and 100 Plus have come forward to give runners another chance to return from the Power Run with prizes.

"While the run is a serious affair, we also want the participants to have fun and the lucky draws are our way of injecting more fun into the Power Run," said Vegiyathuman.

"It is not too late for those yet to register for the run as entries only close at 6pm on Saturday.

Entry forms can be obtained from FTAAA, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Education Departments and Bata stores at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Sungai Wang and MidValley.

Locals encouraged to gauge foreign runners

LOCAL runners are being encouraged not to shy away from the Power Run this Sunday at Dataran Merdeka given the likely participation of the all-conquering Kenyan contingent.

Federal Territory Amateur Athletic Association secretary S. Vegiyathuman said it is important for local runners to compete in local competitions as they would not have many other opportunities.
"We cannot be sure yet how many foreigners will be entered but this should not be a reason for the locals to stay away. I would encourage them to test themselves against the foreigners," he said.
It is not too late for those yet to register for the run as entries only close at 6pm on Saturday.
The sponsors of the event presented their contributions, which will be given away in the lucky draw during the Power Run 2008, yesterday.

Bata senior marketing manager Datuk James Selvaraj, Nestle sports marketing manager Ng Ping Loong and F & N Coca Cola sponsorship manager Fauzi Ahmad handed their respective contributions of shoes, isotonic drinks and hampers to Vegiyathuman.
Entry forms can be obtained from FTAAA, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Education Departments and Bata stores at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Sungai Wang and MidValley.

“This is a healthy development and bodes well for the promotion and de velopment of distance running,” said marketing manager of Bata Malaysia Dato James Selvaraj.

“We have added two new categories in the run, the primary school boys and girls sections, which will enable them to show some interest in long distance run.”

“We will also have some top runners participating, which will make the public eager to participate.”

“The Power Run to us is yet another corporate contribution to society and also our humble way of saying thank you to Malaysians for their tremendous sup port for Bata and Power all these years.”

“There will be winners or losers in the Power Run but all are winners in cel ebrating the spirit of sports and com pleting the run within the alloted time.”

The Power Run 2008 is open to cit izens of Malaysia and the closing date for registration is April 19.
