Organisers take on Zero Waste concept this year
THE much awaited Genting Trailblazer is back on the same track with the same adventure but it promises a whole new experience.
The Genting Trailblazer will be held at Awana Genting Highlands Golf and Country Resort on Nov 1.
For the past five years, avid runners and hikers have come together with their partners to run through the rain forest.
This year, however, the organisers and sponsors for the event have taken a pledge for “Zero Waste” to help save the earth.
The launch of the Genting Trailblazer was held at the Bukit Nenas Forest Reserve Information Centre recently.
Genting executive director Tan Sri Mohd Amin Osman said the “Zero Waste” concept was to discourage the use of plastic bottles as well as to recycle non-organic waste like paper and boxes.
“This eco-friendly approach is important because there is a need to develop a sustainable mind set to preserve our natural environment,” he added.
They have also decided to produce compost from organic waste and to organise a post-event clean up.
Genting is working with the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) to ensure the event will leave minimal impact on the environment.
They hope the run would also showcase the beauty of the rainforest to participants while they learn to preserve it.
Genting marketing vice president and event director Chow Wei Heng, said there would be no trail route preparation before the run.
“We will not be clearing the trail, not even fallen trees, unless they pose a danger to the runners,” he said.
In order to reduce the use of plastic water bottles, participants will be encouraged to bring their own re-useable water bottles and water dispensers would be placed along the trail as well.
Participants in teams of two can join the championship or the Adventure category which renders the same route but with a higher entry fee.
The championship winner stands a chance to win RM10,000 while the Adventure category offers RM40,000 in kind.
Registration for the championship and Adventure category will close on Oct 4 on the Genting Trailblazer website. The Rush Hour registration ends on Aug 31. For more information log on to www.gentingtrailblazer.com or call 03-2333 6650 03-2333 6650.
